2023 New Year Halifax Go School Rating Tournament

 

Halifax Go School is committed to Go education, aiming to promote Go in Nova Scotia, increase the popularity of Go, and train Go lovers. This rating tournament will be in accordance with the Canadian Go Association rule.     

 

Date: Sunday, January 8, 2023, Atlantic time (10:30am - 7:00pm)

Ø  Register: Login in your CGA account, if you don’t have the account, please create a new account (https://canadiango.org/).

 

Ø  The deadline for registration and payment is January 6, 2023.

 

Ø  Fees: $35/player, E-transfer: [email protected] (Please leave a message “Full name”).

 

Ø  Cancellation 24 hours in advance will receive a refund of the registration fee.

 

 

Certificates: All the certificates are issued by CGA (Canadian Go Association). If grading is successful, additional fees will be charged for certificate processing.

Tournament Rules:

Ø  5 rounds - MacMahon Method;

Ø  AGA Rule, 19x19 board, Komi 7.5;

Ø  Timing: 30 minutes main time + Canadian byo-yomi of 10 minutes for 25 stones;

Ø  1D or above players will be collecting winning points in order to upgrade their level (the points will be calculated by CGA system)

Ø  If you are unsure about your child’s rank, please ask your current Go teacher. If you already have Go Rank Certificate, please register based on that.

Ø  25K – 1K division will use 19x19 board to play.

Ø  Win at least 1 games out of 5 will get a certificate of 25K.

Ø  If there are not enough players, the Tournament Organizer will arrange the pairing manually and post it during the matches.

Ø  If there are not enough players in the same group, and the participants level differs from each other greatly; a handicap will be decided by the Canadian Go Association and the organizer for the match to be effective. The following chart shows the handicaps will apply for each level.

    Attention:

 

Ø  The participant should not quit the tournament in the middle of the day. All players need to complete five rounds of matches. If the player gets sick or encounters emergency situations during the tournament and has to leave, the player will not be raised to their proposed level even with enough wins. 

Ø  The tournament is held on the OGS platform, please register an OGS account in advance (if you don’t have one).

Ø  All forms of AI and alternative help is strictly forbidden in this tournament. Failure to do so will result in immediate termination of the tournament.

Ø  To ensure the fairness of online tournament, all players have to turn on their camera and join the video chat room before games start. Note that the video must clearly show the player. Any players who fail to join the video room or fail to turn on their cameras will have to follow organizers' final decisions.

Ø  If you suspect a player is using AI or other alternative help, you can request the referees to conduct an inspection report of that round. $30 is needed for the inspection report. However, if the inspection indicates that the other player did use AI or other alternative help, we will fully refund as well as changing the result of the round. If the other player’s playing history is clear and valid, you will not receive the refund of the inspection report.
