2023 Canadian Autumn Go Open Tournament

The 2023 Canadian Autumn Go Open Tournament, a collaborative effort between Gofun Studio in Toronto and HSK (Toronto Chinese Test Center), is scheduled for October 28, 2023. We are grateful to Bond Academy for their venue sponsorship, and the Canadian Go Association (CGA) is also a proud co-organizer of this event.

1. Purpose and Objectives of the Tournament

This tournament, known as the 2023 Canadian Autumn Go Open, has a primary mission of promoting Go through friendly competition, fostering connections through the game of chess, and increasing the popularity of Go, the pinnacle of human intelligence sports, in North America, particularly in Canada. Ms. Huang Mei, Chairwoman of the Bond Education Group Board of Directors." And Dr. Li Ningyu, the director of HSK, assumes the honorary chairmanship for the event, with Mr. Liu Yong from Gofun Studio and Heady Zeng, the deputy director of HSK, serving as executive chairpersons. James Sedgwick, the president of CGA, acts as a consultant. Dedicated teachers from Gofun Studio and enthusiastic volunteers have formed the competition organizing committee. This competition adheres to the rules of the Canadian Go Association (CGA) and complies with the International Go Federation's standards for Go competitions. For comprehensive competition rules, please consult the "Competition Order Booklet" and "Competition Rules." The organizing committee retains the right to arbitrate in matters not covered.

3. Registration Information

Early bird registration (before 23:59 on September 28, 2023): $35 per person Regular registration (after September 28): $45 per person Registration deadline: October 20, 2023, at 23:59 (ET)

When registering players, kindly provide their name, gender, the reported group (youth group participants should provide their age), and Go level.

4. Tournament Rules

The tournament follows a 5-round McMahon points accumulation system and features an open group (no age restrictions) and a youth group (under 18 years old). Depending on registration numbers, the open group may be further categorized into high-level and low-level groups. For youth groups, divisions may include high-level and low-level categories. The high-level open group will employ the equitable rule, while other groups' handicap rules will be determined based on group size and level. If handicaps apply, they will adhere to CGA rules. 5. Tournament Schedule

Each round lasts 1.5 hours, with 45 minutes allocated to each player. Overtime will result in a loss. In the event of disruptive behavior (e.g., excessive time delays or meaningless moves), the referee and chief referee will make judgment calls based on the board situation. All final decisions will be made by the organizing committee.

6. Sponsorship Opportunities

A. Title Sponsorship: $3000 (1 available) - Title sponsors will have the tournament named after them and receive a full-page promotional space in the competition announcement. They can also feature their promotional articles after each competition announcement. On-site, sponsors will be provided with a promotional table for posters and distribution of promotional materials.

B. Diamond Sponsorship: $1000 (multiple available) - Diamond sponsors will receive a page of promotional space in the competition announcement, with the option to include their promotional articles after each announcement. On-site, sponsors will have access to a promotional table for posters and material distribution.

C. Platinum Sponsorship: $500 (multiple available) - Platinum sponsors will enjoy half a page of promotional space in the competition announcement, with the opportunity to feature promotional articles after each announcement. On-site, sponsors can use a promotional table for posters and material distribution.

D. Gold Sponsorship: $200 (multiple available) - Gold sponsors will receive a 1/4 page of promotional space in the competition announcement and may include promotional articles after each announcement. On-site, they can display posters and distribute promotional materials.

E. Friendship Sponsorship: No specified limit - Friendship sponsors will have their names included in the competition announcement and will be acknowledged as supporters of Go.
